Ecologies of care

with Bojana Kunst e Martina Ruhsam

28 novembre 2023
ore 17.30
Lavanderia a Vapore / Foyer

Within the public program of Making room for critical thinking, Ricerca X presents Ecologies of care, a public talk articulated by Bojana Kunst and Martina Ruhsam.

Artistic work is interconnected with precarious forms of living and working that contribute to a desire for care in the arts today.
Bojana Kunst and Martina Ruhsam will talk about Bojana Kunst´s new book “The Life of Art. Transversal Lines of Care” and Martina Ruhsam´s research project that focuses on the question how the performing arts can be(come) a socio-ecological practice that transforms itself in response to the ecological crises we are part of.

The conversation is based on the recognition of the entanglement of life and art. The question how a different life of art could look like has to include a reflection of the economic, structural and institutional conditions of art-making.
What are the complexities and asymmetries of care in relation to artistic work? When is care for other human and more than human beings the motor of art-making? And what are the immanent politics at stake if care, vulnerability and precarity are at the core of an artistic work? When are these concerns instrumentalized by a form of cultural politics that contributes to an erasure of paradoxes and complexities in order to preserve a binary thinking?
