residencies

The residencies, core activity of Workspace Ricerca X, are conceived as a space dedicated to artistic research, addressed to artists active in the fields of performing arts and choreography.
The focus is placed on fundamental research, without productive purposes, and is articulated through modules of shared residencies, involving every year a group of artist-researchers, practitioners, choreographers, makers, together with the curatorial team.
The project proposes a non-neutral residency format, with specific modes, approaches and work tools.
The structure is based on alternating collective work sessions and individual work, developing and sharing research practices and materials, reflecting and discussing these practices and materials.

By activating, sharing and observing the research processes of each participant, the invitation is to constantly change one’s point of view and to constantly shift one’s role from participant, to observer, to collaborator, in a horizontal and collaborative dimension, based on peer coaching and exchange, and oriented to building alliances.

The sharing of practices, intended as the form in which research materializes and can be shared, the presentation of materials emerged during the research process and of the developed methodologies constitute the ground  for discussion, as they work as an invitation to plunge into the other participants’ universes and research trajectories.
From these active spaces of intimate and constant togetherness, we develop an intense dialogical mode, building upon discussions and feedback and allowing to train discursiveness around artistic work, critical thinking and a collective reflexivity.
A specific attention is placed on the observation of one’s own artistic trajectory, in order to acknowledge working modes, methods and tools within one’s practice, and to be able to then apply them to other contexts, including in productions.
Through the residencies, a complex research environment gets activated: a place of sharing, proximity and circulation of practices, people, materials and discourses, from where knowledge and new meanings emerge.

The residencies take place within the premises of the Lavanderia a Vapore in Collegno, that supports the project Workspace Ricerca X. For each edition, participants are selected either through open call or direct invitation.
